Weymon Miller

Weymon Miller

“He formed the baskets from ribs to rim.”

The Genuine Georgia brand and logo is in memory and in honor of Greene County resident and talented artisan, Mr. Weymon Miller, who wove white oak baskets well into his nineties before passing. He learned the art of basket making by simply watching his grandfather weaving mule collars, baskets and chair bottoms. He was proudest that he made his own splints for the baskets. Weymon left a beautiful legacy behind – one of the finest artisans that graced this earth.

2003

Greensboro Downtown Development Authority started Genuine Georgia as an economic development project.

2005

Cynthia Smith, purchased the store from the Authority, broadening the art concept base each year as she added more Georgia artists and products.

2013

Genuine Georgia doubled in size, moving to the beautifully restored Townehouse building on the corner of Main and Broad Street in Greensboro, allowing for more space for hand-designed furniture, and of course, larger pieces of art!

Meet The Team

Cynthia Smith

Cynthia decided years ago to bring her love for quality Georgia handcrafted art and home décor to the heart of her hometown. Located in the center of historic downtown Greensboro, Genuine Georgia isn’t your typical store – it’s a home away from home. From the warm “Welcome Y’all” greeting when you enter the door, to the stories you’ll hear from locals, this artisan marketplace is far from ordinary. You’ll leave with unique items and a heart-warming experience you won’t forget.

Our goal is to keep the spirit of hand-made art alive in people of all ages. We enjoy helping customers find that unique piece of art that meets their needs whether for home decor or a gift. We work to assist customers in finding the perfect piece or item for their home, the perfect gift for a loved one, and to assist in commissioning art directly from the artist specifically for customers’ needs and wants.

The team at Genuine Georgia also proudly works closely with the Greene County Chamber of Commerce, the Greensboro Main Street Program, and the Greensboro Business Association. Being a member of these organizations allows us to enhance the downtown area, support other businesses and business owners, and to participate in anything positive that is impacting the community.

We make sure that visiting Genuine Georgia, an Artisan Marketplace, is a unique, fun, educational, yet satisfying experience for every person that walks through our doors. We share stories with our patrons about all of the art, the artists, and the historic building so they feel a unique part of the “hometown” experience of Greensboro. Southern hospitality is alive and well in Genuine Georgia. We look forward to meeting you!
